Basel, Switzerland

At the beginning of July I traveled to Basel Switzerland for a job interview. In the end the job didn’t work out but Basel turned out to be quite a nice city. It’s located in the northwest corner of Switzerland where the borders of Switzerland, France and Germany meet. It’s actually a bit strange when you fly into the EuroAirport, which is 10 minutes from Basel. The airport is essentially in all 3 countries. After you collect your luggage you decide which country you want to enter via which door you pass through. One for each country; Switzerland, Germany or France.

As expected there were winding cobble stoned streets throughout the city.

It was July and in the midst of World Cup which was hosted by neighbouring Germany. As such, the sidewalk patios were bustling by the time late afternoon rolled around.

In addition to the usual mixture of cars, bicycles and pedestrians there were also trains to contend with. It made jaywalking a bit hazardous.

This is a picture of Mittiere Bridge as it stretches across the Rhein River.

This is the view from the Mittiere Bridge looking South. The building on the right is famous hotel called Drei Konige am Rhein, which I think means Three Kings on the Rhein. I did not stay there. In fact, the doorman didn’t really look like he wanted to let me in for a look. So I left.

And this is the view looking north.

One of many interesting buildings in Old Town located in the center of Basel. This may or may not have been a place of worship. I didn’t go in.

A Swiss Bank. I did not open a numbered account.

This is a very impressive cathedral called Munster und Pfalz. Would fit nicely in Gotham I think.

One more place I did not enter.
